In 1913, The United States Navy began having t-shirts made for sailors. It was merely for sailors to have something underneath their jumpers that would cover their chest. While sailors have their t-shirts, civilian men also had singlet that is a sleeveless undergarment.

In the late 1930’s, Hanes and Sears Roebuck started to produce t-shirts to sell to the civilians. Then came 1930 where the Fruit of Loom started to manufacture. Sear Roebuck sold t-shirts designed like a sailor’s undergarment for 24 cents. At that time, it was called the gob shirt since gob was the popular slang term for a sailor in the U.S. Navy. The gob shirt was identified by Sears as a suitable wearing that would serve as an undergarment rather than only as a garment.

The marines realized that they were too easy for the enemy to spot as they wear the white shirt. So, they dye their shirts with coffee ground to have a color which would camouflage to the area where they were in. Later, the standard green military t-shirt were developed and were given to the marines then to the armies.
In 1950’s when t-shirts became popular in Europe as well as in America, advertisers realized that t-shirts were a great thing to promote. From then on, t-shirts have already been present in the world.

The story of t-shirts is indeed worth sharing because now, it really served its worth. T-shirts presence will never last. Nevertheless, it will spontaneously be developed from generation to generation.
